Small Group: Theatre Games and Improvisation Basics

Starts January 24th--Limited to 20 Actors, Ages 13 to 18

 Play helps us stay connected.   This class is designed to introduce you to the thrills and of improv in a casual, no-big-show-at-the-end atmosphere; this isn't for performance, it's for laughs.  As a bonus, you will develop your acting and narrative skills along the way, all while reconnecting with others in real time. Tap into your sense of joy, connection, and creativity with the basic building blocks of improv! 

   
Tackle new games and discover ways to make moments memorable in a fun, collaborative environment.  We will grow, and laugh, together.
build on foundational principals of story-telling to breathe life into each scene.
Examine the bones of games and what makes them work.
Have a great time creating with like-minded people.

Prerequisite: a willingness to play a little and stretch yourself a bit.


Classes are Wednesdays 6:30 to 7:45pm

1/24, 1/31, 2/7, 2/28, 3/6 and 3/13

Small Group: Beginning Acting--Middle School

Small Group: Theatre Games and Improvisation Basics

Small Group: Theatre Games and Improvisation Basics

Starts January 23rd--Limited to 16 Actors, Ages 12-14

 This beginning course explores the art of acting in a playful, encouraging, collaborative atmosphere, and offers a dynamic and engaging introduction to the craft of acting.   Develop a basic understanding of acting fundamentals through Stanislavski-based practice. Using exercises and scene work, this class introduces students to the elements of dramatic action, text analysis, and character development, as well as the tools for releasing inhibitions and expanding vocal and physical range. May be repeated.

  • stage movement,
  • acting terminology. 


Classes are Tuesdays, 5:30 to 6:45pm

Small Group: Intermediate Acting--High School

Small Group: Theatre Games and Improvisation Basics

Small Group: Intermediate Acting--High School

Starts January 23rd--Limited to 16 Actors, Ages 14 -18

For those who have some experience and want to expand their toolbox with Stanislavski-based practice, building on our foundation through fun, energizing games activities.  

Using short scenes and dramatic literature, special focus will be on: 

  • Warming up and being ready to play
  • Encouraging students to make strong, action-driven choices that are dramatically effective,  
  • Finding pivotal events in a scene, and 
  • Creating dynamic obstacles. 
  • Class may be repeated.

Prerequisite: a beginning acting class, or some prior learning of script analysis, beat breakdown, and character objectives


Classes are Tuesdays 7:00 to 8:30pm

 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/27, 3/5, 3/12 

(no class 2/13 or 2/20)

Small Group: Actors' Performance Lab

Private Lessons: Scene Study Sessions

Small Group: Intermediate Acting--High School

Starts January 25th--Limited to 10 Actors, Ages 16 to 18

This intensive course is designed for students with a solid acting foundation.  

Focus in this class is performance.  Students will work as an ensemble or in small groups on scripts for presentation (see below).  Emphasis here is on how acting techniques apply to the given script.  This small class will provide students an opportunity to perform for an audience.  

  • Students are encouraged to find scripts they would like to work on.  Alternatively, the instructor can help with selection.  The class and instructor will communicate prior to the first class about ideas for scene selection.
  • Coursework includes class time plus weekly rehearsal as an ensemble/small group outside of class; 
  • additionally, there may be required evening rehearsals during the final week of classes, prior to the performance. 
  • There will be one scheduled performance on 3/13.
  •  Students should anticipate an additional 2 to 3-hour rehearsal in the final week of class. 
  • The class will have up to 10 participants.  


Prerequisite: an intermediate acting class, or a firm grasp of script analysis, beat breakdown, and character objectives


Classes are Thursdays 6:30 to 8:45pm

1/25, 2/1, 2/8. 2/29, 3/7, and 3/14 

(no class 2/15 or 2/22)

About the Instructor

 An educator, director and actor for over 25 years, Chris cares passionately about performing arts.  His enthusiasm is infectious.  His work has been nominated for and received numerous awards, including Outstand Director in 2015.  At the California Thespian Festival, his students have earned 17 first place awards, as well as 14 second and 21 third place nods.  He loves finding the truth that lies under dramatic arts.  Giving actors clear, motivated action that builds on that truth enables performers to achieve remarkable results.     

Family

About the only thing more important than good acting is a great family.  The Fallows family loves to play board games, read good books, and, above all, laugh.
